crazy lamp lady

I'm drawn to photos like the one above. Sometimes I call myself the crazy lamp lady; I don't collect lamps and my home is not filled with lamps, I simply love beautiful lamps. A lamp is often the first thing that catches my attention when I view photos of interiors, and believe me, ugly lamps or misplaced ones can completely ruin my experience.

I have this idea of finding one or a pair of matching lamps for our living room. If I find one I'd like to buy a chest of drawers. If I find a pair I'd like to buy a long and narrow table or a sideboard. The chest of drawers is excellent for storage but I can only place it in one corner of the living room. A sideboard is excellent for storage too but a table feels lighter and leaves me with more options; it would look good up against a wall or behind the sofa. If the table had an extra shelf it would be perfect for coffee table books. Then there is another option for a pair of lamps: buying a desk. One lamp goes on the desk, the other on a side table. But I find desks in living rooms a bit tricky, either they work or they don't.

Back to lamps. I don't want to buy just any lamp; I want to find a lamp that speaks to me, either a new one or in a thrift shop. So far I've seen many but not the one that really speaks to me. So, in the meantime I keep calm and continue my search. I'll let you know if I have any luck and finally decide which look to go for.

Do you happen to be a crazy lamp lady/gentleman?

Enjoy your Monday!

  2. For sure I am! LOVE lamps and sort of feel the same way you do, especially these days when decorating my home occupies my mind so much;) There's only one down point which is that online you see so many many gorgeous lamps yet here in Holland such ones are harder to find. Would love a glass lamp, either translucent or with a minty color, or (and) a blue printed ceramic/porcelain one. Who knows, one day we'll both get lucky;)

  3. Christel: Glass lamps sounds gooooooood. Minty sounds gooooood. Blue printed ceramic ceramic/porcelain sounds goooood. Maybe we should go lamp shopping together ;-)

  4. I am a bit of a crazy lamp gentleman:-) Last year, I bought a lamp in Paris and carried it as hand luggage in the plane to Munich:-) It is modern style lamp with a touch of industrial chic - black twisted metal poles make the lamp stand, a satined black lamp shades adds drama and a stark red cord makes a colour statement:-) Happy Monday, Igor xoxo

  5. Yep, I am a crazy lamp lady too! They are one of my many weaknesses. I hardly ever turn on the overhead lights in our house because I think the glow from a table lamp is much more flattering and welcoming. At the moment, I have a 'thing' for old fashioned articulated lamps! Hope you have a wonderful Monday Lisa!

  6. I wouldn't call myself a crazy lamp lady, but I do love a room with a statement lamp, it's an element that can really make a difference. I was even thinking of adding a lamp in the kitchen, but haven't figured out how just yet. Oh, and one in the hallway. Well, Lisa, it seems that I'm a crazy lamp lady too, after all. Have a beautiful day! xo

  10. I am a lamp person, too! And a mirror person also. Love the idea of sideboard/chest of drawers and lamps very much. We have one here and I am still looking for something to put in a hall way (plus a lamp and a mirror). One more thing you'll need to think of when choosing the "base" for your lamps - a chest of drawers helps to conceal all the cables where as the side board (unless the back is a solid piece) will leave everything, the cables, the switches, etc. on a show.

    Have a wonderful day, Lisa!

  13. It sounds like I must be a crazy lamp lady too. I have been on the hunt for some fabulous lamps - one for my workspace and one for my bedroom - but after months I still cannot find something I like! I love not only the light that lamps give off but admiring their beauty too xx

  14. There is a little space against the wall opposite the dining table that was originally meant for a chest of drawers or small sideboard and housing a lamp, some hardbacks and an artwork on the wall. Well it was designed that way initially but 4 years later, I'm still searching... I'm not in a rush... just waiting for the perfect lamp!
PS: seriously it is soooo hot here that its like melting! And I'm going to the tennis tonight and its still 30degrees in the evening... now trying to figure out something cool to wear!hahaha- look for me on the tv.
