let's go to dordogne

My heart skipped a beat when I first saw the exterior of this gorgeous 18th century manor house in Dordogne, France (east of Bordeaux); I love the brick walls and light blue shutters. When I saw the rest of the photos I wanted to move in. I'm all for exposed beams and brickwork; they are my idea of cosiness. I really like the use of neutral colours and the bleached floorboards in the living room are so beautiful. The kitchen is a little bit too contemporary for my taste but it has some balance so I like it. And look at that wood burner! sigh

Our younger daughter came down with a fever yesterday so it'll mainly be a relaxing day in bed with books and DVDs. I've decided to make a chicken noodle soup for dinner with a lot of ginger because after my December experience I've had it with sickness.

Have a wonderful Tuesday!

  1. My heart just skipped a beat too, Lisa. Look at that picturesque exterior and the gorgeous living room (piano-beams-chandelier, oh my!). Actually at the first I thought the kitchen was a bit too contemporary for my taste too, but the use of wood and stone balance the look nicely.

I hope your daughter feels better in no time, Lisa. Have a beautiful day! xo

  2. Ooooh this looks heavenly!! Look at that house, it looks like its from a fairytale. And the interior feels so calm, chic and warm. This a gem, for sure. Dordogne was on our destination list last summer, seeing this I'm thinking next time we should go there.

Hope your little girl feels better very soon and health will return to your home!

  4. This home is so charming. Cozy indeed!! Stonework, brick, and exposed beams are my favorite design elements in homes. :)

I think I could spend all day with book curled up in that chair next to the wood stove! Beautiful!

  8. How pretty! I love the little touches like the coat/wellie room which make the stunning house look like a home. The neutral tones keep it contemporary as well.

  9. *Sigh* - so beautiful! I really need to get myself a house soon, it´s so annoying that we have to wait until 2014 until they release the land we want... :-/

  13. That is a good looking house... Now I can't play the piano but I'd love to have one in the lounge and I wasn't really into exposed beams but I'm starting to come around particularly with a bit more of a modern vibe to the decorating. I do like the kitchen but those chairs don't do it for me. But, hey, I could visit for a while!

  18. Oh, And there is a piano!! In my perfect dream house there is a piano next to a big fireplace. And Ewan McGregor is playing it. Ha!
I'm with you on your idea of coziness, the more rustic it is the better. Old houses have always a great feeling.
