oscars looks

What did you guys think about the Oscars? I haven't seen The King's Speech yet but I'm happy that it did so well; I think Colin Firth deserved to win this year. I loved director Tom Hooper's acceptance speech, especially the part where he told about a phone call he got from his mother, who had attended a reading of the play (I think that's what he said) and called him afterward and said she thought she had found his next film. Then he added: "The moral of the story is: Listen to your mother!"

These were my favourite looks on the red carpet: Gwyneth Paltrow in Calvin Klein, pregnant Best Actress winner Natalie Portman in Rodarte, Amy Adams in L'Wren Scott and host Anne Hathaway in vintage Valentino Haute Couture.

why be dull?

Who would use citron and turquoise in the hall and aqua and orange in the guest room? That, ladies and gentlemen, would be designer John Willey. On his website it says: "Life's too short for an all-beige room." I love that! This is a colourful home in Nantucket designed by him. The images are from House Beautiful but you can view the entire house on his website.

rolling in the deep

I feel like I've been cheating on blogging with shopping (to steal a phrase from SATC II and making it mine). Hubby had three days off so we spent them together, mainly walking and shopping, having lunch & latte. It seemed like everywhere we went they were playing ADELE's song Rolling in the Deep. Well, I didn't mind, I love that girl and her amazing voice.

Hope you all had a fabulous week!

antwerp & rosemary

Today was one of those accidental shopping days with lunch & latte. Hubby had the day off so we went into town and found ourselves in a really nice shop called Dille & Kamille, getting all kinds of wonderful small items for the home, mainly the kitchen. The weather was just perfect, mild and rainy looking without the rain, and Antwerp was in exceptionally good spirits. I believe cities and places have their good and bad days, just like the rest of us. Well, today Antwerp was simply fabulous; it was one of those days when I fall a little bit more in love with the city. I admit that the Italian lunch with my man and my take away latte had something to do with that, and of course the things we bought.

So, now I'm in the kitchen with my new apron admiring the red check napkin we bought, just like the one hanging from the drawer in the image below. It got me into a French mood so I decided to make baked potatoes with rosemary and garlic.

I don't know what it is with rosemary, it always reminds me of French cuisine.

PS. I fell in love with this floor lamp in Habitat today. When I got home I saw that one of my favourite bloggers, Will at Bright.Bazaar, blogged about the lamp shade today.

summertime

Today I'm inspired by designer Suzanne Kasler,  who says that "a room should be collected, not decorated," and photographer Tria Giovan. This image simply screams summertime. And look at these two gorgeous turquoise lamps ... mon dieu!

theyskens' theory autumn 2011

I think if you're blogging and living in Belgium and you don't cover Theyskens' Theory at the NY Fashion Week they will probably throw you out of the country ... or maybe not. Olivier Theyskens is a Belgian designer who was the artistic director at the Nina Ricci fashion house before he took the same job at Theory. Before that he was at Rochas. In my opinion, the guy is a genius.

sundays are the best

I can't begin to describe how much I love that sign. Apparently, it's a bakery in Seoul, which makes me want to take a trip to South Korea one day. Most of you already know about my Paris obsession and I found that necklace on a website called Nest Pretty Things, which has a lot of pretty things. It looks like we'll be visiting Paris during Easter if everything goes as planned! The rest of the collage reflects my mood today. We're going for a drive and I'm already visioning the pancakes I'm going to make when we get back.

Sundays are the best!

lilac charm

Lately, I have had a bit of a crush on lilac and I realized that I had a few images in my folder. Unfortunately, I don't know the source of the kitchen image but I'm really interested in seeing the rest of the place.

I hope you're having a wonderful day.

carolina herrera autumn 2011

I'm in a fashion mood these days, after all, it is New York Fashion Week. I don't want to drown you with runway images so today I decided to pick just two looks from the Carolina Herrera Autumn / Winter 2011 Collection. When I was viewing the slide show these are the colours that made me really happy – so refreshing. They also reminded me of photos of beautiful ranunculus I came across the other day.

Are you following the NY Fashion Week? Do you have a favourite?

victoria beckham autumn 2011

I easily could have posted almost every single item of Victoria Beckham's Autumn / Winter 2011 Collection, which she showed at New York Fashion Week last Sunday. I'm no expert but I think this is her strongest collection so far, it all looks so stylish and comfortable, yet classic. I'm in love with the cashmere wrap dresses in the first two images and the pleat skirt dresses in the last two. The first two really have that Victoria signature look - simply fabulous!

summer ... now!

The Kate Moss for Longchamp campaign featuring Kate Moss herself makes me want to skip spring and go straight to summer. Allow me to add that I absolutely love peonies.

my valentine's post

I wasn't going to do a Valentine's post because I don't celebrate this day; it was never a big thing in Iceland, where I grew up. But this beautiful illustration by Dilly Dallas, a wonderful blogger, stuck with me from the moment I saw it. It's a part of a Kate Spade project called B MINE, a gallery of e-valentines to send out to loved ones.

bruxELLEs

Hubby surprised us with a trip to Bruxelles yesterday. It was a bit cold but we enjoyed walking the streets. We had Mexican food, I got my latte and of course we went to a bookshop. If you ever find yourself in Bruxelles and you need something to read in English, I recommend Sterling Books, which offers a great selection of classics and new titles, also for children. And they're open on Sundays. In my opinion, all bookshops should be open on Sundays!

I got the March issue of ELLE UK and it's filled with wonderful stuff. I've already read the interviews with Keira Knightley and Tom Ford, and of course I read the Garance Doré article right away.

Tom Ford directed the cover shoot and Terry Tsiolis took the gorgeous photos. Keira Knightley is of course stunning in some of the clothes from Ford's Spring/Summer 2011 Collection, his first in six years. If you haven't seen the wonderful video from his NY fashion show, I think you definitely should click play! You'll see Beyoncé and some other fabulous women of all ages showing his clothes to a crowd of one hundred.

wonderful sunday

This is my mustard-polka-dots-hairpin-brown-belt-yellow-fabulous-dresses mood. Just breathe deeply and read that again in case you missed the meaning. Or just look at the collage and you'll know what I'm talking about.

What are you guys up to today? We're going to grab a latte somewhere in the town centre and go to one of the international magazine shops to get something to read. Since we spent yesterday at a boat show I'm pretty sure hubby will pick a cruising boat magazine but I'm buying ELLE UK so I can read the Garance Doré Closet Confidential article.

friday i'm in love

I don't care if Monday's blue
Tuesday's gray and Wednesday too
Thursday I don't care about you
It's Friday, I'm in love
[…]
Dressed up to the eyes
It's a wonderful surprise
To see your shoes and your spirits rise
[…]
It's such a gorgeous sight
To see you eat in the middle of the night
You can never get enough
Enough of this stuff
It's Friday, I'm in love

finding your style

No offence, but this home is not my style; I'm not drawn to cast iron beds or furniture. However, I do appreciate when people find their own style and they stick to it so the outcome is somehow complete. It's almost as if these rooms are talking to each other. I like that. And I really like some of the china.

shades of yellow

I woke up this morning with this image on my mind so I simply had to post it. It has probably been posted by every other blogger out there but I don't care. I'm in the mood for shades of yellow and, as most of you know by now, I have a bit of a settee obsession. The photographer hardly needs an introduction; it's the talented Virginia MacDonald.
