I was digging into my home inspirations folder (it's a rather big one) and thinking about the elements that create the perfect home in my mind. By perfect I mean a home that is inviting and warm, and defines one's personal style. I need a bright home with much natural light. I find dark homes beautiful but they are not for me. I like neutral furniture and popping things up with colours. I need books around me, plenty of them. Fresh flowers create that finishing touch and add a good smell from something baking in the oven and I would be in a state of bliss.
How would you describe yours?

I agree ...Lots of natural light, dark stained floors and plenty of books and art. Simple lines, not too fussy and yes the aroma of baking cakes or bread - mmmm.
ReplyDeleteLight is so important to make a room look cozy and welcoming! What I look mostly in a living room is a comfortable nook where I can cudle up and do my favorite things (grab my knit or my laptop). This can be a sofa or a large armchair, or even a pile of fluffy pillows on the floor! xoxo
ReplyDeleteBeautiful inspirations, Lisa. I particularly love the last pic - that abundance of natural light, the cozieness of the the pitched roof area - love it!
ReplyDeleteI'm the same about light, there has to be lots of natural light. And polished wooden floors. Our current place is full of books, old, new, all well read. And treasures from all our travels and adventures. Flowers are great too (I get lazy about looking after them though)
ReplyDeleteI love your inspiration Lisa and am with you on fresh flowers to make a space feel like home. I adore feminine touches too, like this gorgeous Chanel piece...do you know who the artist is? xx
ReplyDelete@Rachel: it's Andy Warhol's
ReplyDeleteIt's the natural light that does it for me, too. I love that feeling of openness and airy feeling. Good for the mind and soul, I think!
ReplyDeleteI join your description, definitely. Do you know the (dutch?) game 'kwartet'? I think we can play that with our inspiration files;)
ReplyDeleteReading your description I found my own thoughts on how I picture a perfect home. :)
ReplyDeleteI am also a bright house owner! I like neutral furniture, but the chairs or the couch in a brighter tone: my living couch is...not purple, that's the bathroom :D, red. Yes, the furniture is light brown and the couch is red and other pop up colors come from my Toulouse Lautrec pictures on the wall. Lovely home inspiration, as usual, Lisa!
ReplyDeletePS: I saw A Single Man in the morning (it was on TV when I woke up, at 6.30 am and get a little late at work, but it is understandable :D I like it a lot)
How gorgeous! That first photo is how I would describe my dream surroundings. Lots of bright light, books, flowers, artwork, chandelier, those built ins. It's perfection!
ReplyDeleteWell, you pretty much described my ideal home. ;)

That first room is just amazing. I think I'm totally on the same wavelength as you as far as what I look for in a home. One of the big attractions to our current apt. was it's Eastern exposure and the ton of light that comes in during the day. I tend to think that light and happiness have a direct connection.
ReplyDeleterolala loves
I like the first image so much!
ReplyDeleteA home - my home shows things I love from everywhere. I like light colours with grey and black!
Red in the kitchen ...

Ohhh yes - baking in the oven - I'm in ;o))) Nice photos - love the frame with the Chanel ;o)
ReplyDeleteHave a nice afternoon Lisa ..
I really like the last picture. It has a very similar colour scheme to our living room which has quite a lot of wood and the colour on the wall is called "Latte" appropriate huh? ;)
ReplyDeleteBeautiful¡¡ Natrual light , and sophisticated.
ReplyDeleteVisit my blog , i strart to show my handmade. I wnat your opinion.
Any one of these would be my idea of a perfect home! Abundant light, good quality furniture, heaps of framed photographs and travel memorabilia are also a must for me! I love the fact that the first image has fresh flowers on almost every available surface!
ReplyDeletesmell is important, you are right, and flowers. I just feel guilty quickly, for cutting them for my own pleasure...
ReplyDeletei love that chanel poster!
ReplyDeleteGoegeous pictures. I think you've hit the nail on the head - I would agree with all those things and maybe add the sound of children and pets playing as well. Have a lovely dday x Sharon
ReplyDeleteNatural lighting, comfortable and inviting. Magazines, books, flowers, pets, family/friends, and a batch of chocolate chip cookies in the oven :)

I think your description sounds just about perfect, sunny and light with colour accents and a homey warm feeling!
ReplyDeleteI like natural light, books and shabby shabby furniture. Here in the winter time is very cozy with lots of candles around and of course fresh flowers in the spring and summer... soon. soon ; )
