day of relaxation

Yesterday was spent on a beach in Bruinisse, Holland, a place I always enjoy visiting. The weather wasn't particularly warm but it was mild and it felt lovely being outside, watching the children playing in the sand and the cruisers setting sails. Because it was too cold for sunbathing we almost had the beach to ourselves. I was mainly reading while Hubby was mastering the art of French cooking Dutch barbecuing.

By the way, these days I'm reading The Opposite of Fate by Amy Tan. I've read her first four novels but this is a non-fiction, sort of an autobiography but with a twist and no chronological order. She writes about things close to her heart, for example her relationship with her mother, the making of the film The Joy Luck Club (1993) and much more.

Some of these photos were taken yesterday and some during another recent visit. In the below photo you see the main area, Jachthaven Bruinisse, after major renovations that were completed in 2010. There is a small supermarket in the white building, called Supermarkt, that offers plenty of fresh food and everything beach related. We like going there for coffee. There is a small café in one corner and the man who runs the place is very friendly. If you are a cruiser I think you'll be satisfied with the facilities of the marina, its clean showers and bathrooms. Close by are holiday homes for rent, there is also a golf course and then all around you have the beautiful countryside of Zeeland, as this part of Holland is called.

We first visited Bruinisse on Easter Sunday last year in an amazing weather and I shared some photos on the blog.

  8. I can't believe your weather!
We had a small taste of spring a few days before Easter, but now we have about 50 cm of snow again. I am seriously doubting the whole moving north plan at the moment, but I bet it will pass again in a few weeks :)

Hugs and hope you have had a great holiday Lisa!
