warm homes & personal style

Lately I have been thinking about homes that feel warm and inviting, homes that are decorated with beautifully designed pieces, not necessarily expensive, that truly reflect the personal style of the owners. Images of such homes inspire me, even though the style is not something that I'd go for. Sometimes when I'm browsing through house tours in interior magazines or on websites it feels more like viewing a brochure from a furniture designer or a shop. Often these homes feel cold and the heart seems to be missing. It's as if the owners are showing off the expensive pieces they can afford instead of creating a harmony with shapes, textures and colours. Do you ever get that same feeling?

Life is back to normal with the children back to school. I would have enjoyed another week of holiday, it was really beginning to feel nice not having to set the alarm clock or prepare the lunch and snack boxes. But then again I like the morning routine, everyone eating breakfast together and getting ready for school, asking me where to find this and that, even though they all know exactly where to find these things.

  1. I agree with you - I enjoy looking at homes that tell a story and depict the personal style of its owner, no matter whether it is my style or not. It is just important to keep it personal and make it look like you. Have a happy new week!! Oh and by the way, do you know where I can find...ah teasing:-)

  2. Yes! I do get that same feeling!! Some homes do resemble photo shoots from catalogs and sets. I'm with you...it's the perfect combination of beautiful objects coupled with one's personal, realistic life-style that makes a lovely home.

So happy you and your family enjoyed a relaxing break!

    Warm wishes!

  5. I agree wholeheartedly! I have a horror of homes that look "decorated". They have no personality and soul. We are also back at school after the break and I also enjoy the morning routine. Although I do tire of thinking up new ideas for lunchboxes! x Sharon

  8. Completely agree that for a home to be truly comfortable it must be a reflection of your personality, yet practical and functional too. The biggest thing a home can have is a heart and soul, sometimes I don't think that comes across enough in glossy magazines, but when it does it is very refreshing! Hope you're week is off to a wonderful start Lisa! xx

  9. The greatest thing I love to see or watch is renovating shows - something where you see a before (ghastly!) shot, then an after, which hopefully shows the homeowners personal touch and soul. A kids trike here, a dressmakers mannequin there, a real artwork on that wall and some little prints on another... it all makes for a real home. Lucky the person who can afford all the designer expensive pieces... I'll have em and I'll make em lived in no time - I promise!

I Love Love that artwork in the first image !!

PS: I didn't let you know that those biscotti are AMAZING!! And a really nice gift with some little choc eggs for easter! Yum! Thanksxxx

  10. I much rather prefer homes with character and warmth over those that are perfectly manicured and filled with far-too-expensive furniture. I have totally fallen in love with the artwork in the first pic!

  11. Ohh yes I know what you mean - It could be fun to see a home where 3 kids just played and eating (chocolate) in the sofa and the pillows and quilts are on the floor or where they left them ;o) ha ha Thats a real home ;o))
    Nice tuesday to you ;o)

  12. I often have that feeling of browsing a brochure rather than viewing someone's actual home. The little touches, the imprint of the owners' personal style is what makes a house a home and a home truly inviting an warm. I hope you're having a beautiful day, Lisa! xo

  13. I usually like a lot the designers approach, but there is always something that I would change and that's exactly that "personalized item/s" that speak about me and him and our cats' personality :)))) Here life is also coming back to normal, the long weekend for Easter is gone, so back to business. Have a beautiful day, Lisa!
