craftsmanship with colonial influences

It is not my intention to be political on my blog, but in light of the good news from America, its people deciding to move forward, I was in the mood for featuring the American flag on the blog. Then I remembered this beautiful photo in my files.

That bedroom with its blend of white and wood, subtle use of red and blue hues, and vintage pieces speaks to me. I'm especially drawn to the beautiful craftsmanship in the design of the bed. It's a Vermont luxury bed designed by Frank Hudson, a family run company in the UK that has been in business for over 100 years. In this particular design they blend colonial American and Spanish influences and embrace the craftsmanship of that era.

I do like the styling of the space. I'm not a fan of using flags in decoration, as I usually find the result somewhat over-the-top and simply tacky. However, that weathered looking flag in the corner appeals to me. The space feels inviting and the flag echoes the lovely colours in the striped rug on the floor.

Something tells me that I would sleep very well in that bed.

  1. What a relief the result was - phew! I bought a vintage Union Jack a few years ago but never ended up keeping it up for long, not sure why!

  2. I'm not into sleigh beds but I certainly can appreciate the craftsmanship of something so detailed and particular. Agree with you on the flag as decoration too!:)
PS: now, if I told you what I bought it would spoil the surprise for you!:)

  4. I’m also not very keen on flags as decoration but this totally works. It’s been a long time since I have seen a bed so inviting! I just wish I had the space for something as gorgeous as that!

  7. It's funny with this one - I really like the bed because of how it's made, but I wouldn't choose one for myself. I guess it's not me...

Speaking of your message on Chanel - I am exactly the same. I cannot, absolutely cannot tolerate the smell, but ADORE the bottle and history behind the perfume. :)
