brighter shade than pale 19 - winter

I have to admit that these days I'm feeling slightly out of place somehow. I'm sure part of the reason is the recent relocation but it's also the mild winter we are enjoying in the West Midlands. This kind of weather doesn't feel like winter to me. By the way, I'm not complaining, especially when I see the news from North America. But as someone who grew up in Iceland, winter means cold weather and snow, thick socks, hot chocolate, and a burning fire. What I have is a garden with green grass and blooming pink roses. It's January and this makes no sense to me!

PS. For those new to my blog, my Brighter Shade Than Pale posts are my inspiration boards. They contain a selection of photographs that either reflects a certain mood, a season or a play of colours. Under photo credit you will find the links to the sources.

  1. There I was dreaming of spring yesterday, and now I wish for snow. We haven't had snow yet, except for an unaccountable snow fall in November, and I'm used to having snow in December. That's why I usually want to say good bye to winter as soon as January arrives, but somehow I feel that something is missing this season. I'm pretty sure the weather won't stay this way all winter long though. The photos of the animals in the snow are so beautiful, frame worthy!

  2. Always such a treat reading your blog! Beautiful photos and words! In Los Angeles, it's 80F right now, so I'm dying for the chance to put on a sweater!

  3. Happy New Year Lisa!
Despite your feelings of being out of place, your references to the British climate are very English
    indeed!
Have a happy week, beautiful photo selections as always:)

  4. Hi Lisa, Gorgeous collection of images! They make me wish for snow, too. Well, maybe a little bit. I hope your New Year has gotten off to a fantastic start! Sending all the best from here. x

  5. Wishing you a fantastic 2014.
I am with you Lisa. I love all those pictures as they do reflect what winter represents for me. We also have a very mild weather here in Luxembourg and as much as I am not sure I would love a polar vortex, I would love some frost and even snow! Winter is my preferred season of all and I am sad of what we had so far.

  6. I have the same feeling, Lisa, here is also such a warm weather for this period and everything is green. Lovely collage, once again! It is funny because yesterday I went to the Netherlands lesson and the teacher was prepared with some new expressions and one of it was "een vos verliest wel zijn haren maar niet zijn streken" (a fox loses her hair but not her bad behaviour/prank) and I thought about your lovely image with the innocent fox. Please let me know when you get sick of my Netherlands addiction and I'll stop.
