Space: modern meets rustic in Tuscany

I have used the word balance frequently when describing a space on the blog. Where there is balance in design, there is also harmony, and this Tuscan kitchen is visual proof. As much as I like rustic kitchens, I'm not sure I would want that element alone in my own kitchen. What draws me to this space is indeed the play between modern and rustic elements. We have beams in the ceiling that have been painted white, wall paint that makes the walls look old, and stone floors that could as well be original, though I'm sure these are new tiles. In contrast we have modern cabinets, appliances and concrete worktops. What I like even more about this kitchen are its muted tones and the absence of upper cabinets.

  1. I'm retyping my comment, as I think something went wrong the first time.
I'm on the same note with you, I don't think I could handle a completely rustic kitchen. There must be some contrasting, new elements, so that it looks and feels right (at least according to my taste).

  2. I think mixing modern with rustic is a difficult exercise, but this one is a success.
